چکیده

The problem of evaluation of advisory system quality is studied. Specifically, 18 advisory strategies for operators of a cold rolling mill were designed using different modelling assumptions. Since some assumptions may be more appropriate in different working regimes, we also design a new advising strategy based on the on-line merging of advices. In order to measure actual suitability of the advisory systems, we define two measures: operator’s performance index and coincidence of the observed operator’s actions with the advices. A time-variant model of advisory system suitability is proposed. Merging of the advices is achieved using Bayesian theory of decision-making. Final assessment of the original advisory systems and the new system is performed on data recorded during 6 months of operation of a real rolling mill. This task is complicated by the fact that the operator did not follow any of the recommendations generated by the advisory systems. Validation was thus performed with respect to the proposed measures. It was found that merging of the advising strategies can significantly improve quality of advising. The approach is general enough to be used in many

Empirical Analysis of an In-car Speed, Headway and Lane use Advisory System

For a recently developed in-car speed, headway and lane use advisory system, this paper investigates empirically advice validity (advice given in correct traffic circumstances), credibility (advice logical to drivers) and frequency. The system has been developed to optimize traffic flow by giving advice on a tactical scale. This scale allows traffic flow improvement and fills a gap as most ITS ...

Evaluation of Sizing Press Mill Performance in Slab Width Reduction Using FE Simulation

In this paper, properties of slab deformation in sizing press mill as one of the slab reduction processes in hot rolling mills have been evaluated using the elastoviscoplastic finite element method with explicit formulation. Effect of prarameters such as initial slab width and thickness, reduction, feed pitch, and anvil speed on factors such as dogbone formation, head and tail fishtail profile,...

Evaluation of Thermo-mechanical stress in work rolls of ring rolling mill under thermal and mechanical loading

The defect in work rolls directly influence the forming cost and the final shape of the product. The researchers tend to investigate the thermo-mechanical stress in work roll of rolling machines. These stresses may reduce the roll life. Since the investigation of the thermo-mechanical stress in work roll with real-conditions is complex, comprehensive studies by means of numerical methods are av...

Investigations into the Effect of Tension Between the Stands of the Finishing Mill on Width Control in a Hot Rolling Process

This paper is concerned with investigations into the effect of tension between the stands of the finishing mill on width control in a hot rolling process. An analysis is given to predict satisfactorily the variation in width due to spreading and also due to strip tension between the stands. Wusatowski's model which is developed to give an account of spreading is specified and a similar model to...
